So close but not quite! Miss Ghana Carranzar Naa Okailey Shootner takes the 3rd position as 23 year old Megan Young representing Philippines is crowned Miss World 2013. In a glittering affair in Bali, Indonesia, the US-born contestant beat 126 contestants for the crown. Megan Young, who is studying digital media, promised to be “the best Miss World ever”. Megan who also presents TV shows in her home country wore a beautiful embellished nude-coloured ball gown with silver embellishments. She wept as the Miss World sash was put over her and the crown placed on her head. Miss France Marine Lorphelin came second in the contest and Miss Ghana Naa Okailey Shooter took third place. Miss Ghana is our African Queen. Unfortunately Nigeria’s Anna Ebiere Banner didn’t make it to the top 10, but will continue her role as a MBGN 2013. She will also perform all her roles. The finale was moved from Jakarta to Bali, Indonesia, after extremist groups protested against the competition.

The burial has taken place in Nairobi of Mbugua Mwangi, nephew of Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, who was among the 67 victims of the Westgate Mall attack by terrorists from the Somalia’s Shabaab terror group. But for a stroke of luck, Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, would have been among the dead in the terror attack that took place at the Nairobi Westgate mall in Kenya last weekend. Speaking at a press conference at the Freedom Park, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Friday in honour of the late Ghanaian poet, Professor Kofi Awoonor who died in the attack, Soyinka led a group of eminent Nigerian writers to condemn the Nairobi massacre. Soyinka, who said he, like Awoonor, was invited to the Storymoja/ Hay Literature Festival, said he couldn’t attend because of other pressing engagements he had elsewhere. “My absence was particularly regrettable, because I had planned to make up for my failure to turn up for the immediate prior edition. Participant or absentee however, this is one edition we shall not soon forget,” said Soyinka. Ironically, many Africans that are late to various social events are seldom late to work and to other engagements of interest. This movie questions whether "African Time" is really a culture or a choice and humorously explores the issue of late coming among Africans and unveils some possible solutions for the infamous African Time.

Four-time FIFA footballer of the year Lionel Messi and his father Jorge arrived in a Spanish court this morning Friday September 27th to answer charges of alleged tax fraud. Messi and his father are being accused of hiding over £3.4 million by filing incomplete tax returns from 2006 to 2009. The charges against father and son was lodged by a state prosecutor in June 2013 claiming that they tried to conceal earnings from Messi’s image rights – charges they both deny. “I never take care of that (tax) stuff myself and neither does my father,” Messi said in July. “We have our lawyers and our wealth managers to take care of that and we trust them and they will sort this out.
