He experienced extreme humiliation at every turn of the way, by people who should have stood by him instead of fighting to destroy him. The perplexing nature of his persecutions had evidence of certain sublime spiritual undertones as there remained a deep and undefined mystery behind all the attacks at his efforts to make progress in life.
